Amazon has continued to expand their smart speaker lineup today by announcing the new Echo Show 5.

As the name suggests, this will be a smaller version of the popular Echo Show. To a certain extent, this will also replace the Echo Spot, although that is also still on sale.
The new Echo Show 5 has a 5.5″ display that boasts all the same functionality as its larger sibling, and even has some additional tidbits.
Firstly, for those concerned with privacy, it has a button to shut off the camera and microphone, but it also has a physical slider that goes over the camera. This is useful in situations or locations where you might want the microphone to work, but you have no interest in ever using the camera, such as your bedroom.
The screen size lends itself perfectly for an office desk or bedside environment where the regular Show might be a bit too large and bulky.
The Echo Show 5 is going to compete against the Google Nest Hub, though it is slightly smaller in size. I think this will be a great match-up, as I find the Echo Show takes up too much space on my office desk, while the Nest Hub fit rather well.
It will be available in two colors, Sandstone (light gray), or Charcoal (black/dark gray). While I understand Amazon wanting to keep the SKU level down, I would appreciate some more fun colors similar to that of the Nest Hub.
You can pre-order it now on Amazon.com, and it will be available for purchase June 26th for $89.99.
