Last month Amazon announced a truckload of new devices; from refreshed Echo Dots and Echo Show’s, even a microwave. There were also a few key software updates that really stood out as well. Among them were Alexa Guard, Alexa Hunches, and Whisper Mode.
Whisper Mode is pretty self explanatory, but is entirely welcome. Basically you can activate Alexa by whispering to it, and it will whisper back at an appropriate sound level.
This is fantastic for us early risers that don’t want to wake up anyone else in the room or house with Alexa screaming the weather and forecast at max volume.
Activating it is a little out of the way so here are the steps you need to take.
- Alternatively, you can say “Alexa, turn on whisper mode” to your Echo device.
You only need to do this once, even if you have multiple Echo devices, because it is an account setting rather than just a device setting.
Once you have successfully enabled Whisper Mode, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by just how quiet Alexa can be while still being useful and clear. You’ll need to very close to the device, but that’s kind of the whole point, isn’t it.
